
Variani
Our
Lady’s church
is an architectural monument, standing in the center of the village of Variani.
According to the inscription it was built in 1835. It is a single-nave church
(13,9m x 7,5m), built of cobblestone and brick. The entrance is to the south.
Over the entrance a built- in cross appears, which is made of brick. The
inscription is between the cross and the entrance. On the frontage of the east
window there is a cross. On the roof, to the west there is a little four arched
belfry made of brick with a pyramid-shaped brick roof….

Our
Lady’s church
and old settlement are architectural-archaeological monument standing north-east
of the village of Variani on the place called “Puturoebi”, on the cemetery,
dating back to advanced feudal epoch, and the settlement to late feudal epoch.
It is a single-nave church (12,3m x 6,8m), built of large cobblestone, brown
shirimi stone is also used. The church has got three entrances: to the south,
north and west. There is an inscription made in majuscule script belongs to X-XI
centuries…
The building is badly damaged!

The
tower and the old settlement
is an architectural-archaeological monument, standing 0,5 km west of the village
of Variani, dating back to late feudal epoch. The tower is barrel-shaped, built
of cobble stone diameter 6,7m, It as used for living, and for defensive purposes
as well. It must have been three storied. The foundations made of cobblestone
were discovered on the place called “ Lelistavebi” on the old settlement.
According to the story handed down from the past people must have left the place
during Lezghin invasions in XVIII century….

is an archaeological monument, situated 1 km north-west of the village of
Variani on the place called “Tskarostavebi,” dating back to late feudal
epoch. Foundations made of cobblestone, fragments of clay utensils, large
pitchers etc. were found. According to the story handed down from the past
people left the place during Lezghin invasions in XVIII century….
