
Sveneti
The
old settlement of Gudabertkia
is an archaeological monument, standing in the outskirts of Sveneti, to the
right of the Tbilisi-Gori highway. The settlement was studied by the
archaeological expedition of Gori historic ethnographic museum. It contains
several cultural layers. The oldest layer dates back to the first half of the
third millennium, so called Mtkvari Araksi culture, other layers belong to early
Iron age of late Bronze epoch. In the oldest layer a settlement has been
discovered the archaeological findings of which prove the fact that this place
was once inhabited by farming people. The ruins of buildings have been found
also the articles of copper, stone, bone and ceramics. In the osteological
findings the bones are mostly of sheep and goats. Antlered deer images a
clay-typing machine, a three-pillared altar has also been found….

is an architectural monument, standing east of the village of Sveneti, dating
back to late feudal epoch. It is a single-nave church (7,5m x 5,0m), built of
cobblestone. The entrance is to the south. There is a window in the semicircular
