Skra Gorge
The Skra
gorge
is one of the most interesting gorges of Gori district. It lies between the
gorges of the Tana and the Dzama. It played an important role in the Middle
Ages.
More than 20 historical-architectural monument are in a very bad state of
preservation. As they have been used for the purposes other than religious for
the last 70 years. They were used as farms as larders for keeping wheat, as
mills). In spite of this the mural and the inscription of the Middle Ages can
still be seen on the walls. The Skra gorge is interesting from archaeological
point of view too.
A lot of archaeological findings were discovered there like ceramic pipes
of water, burials, clay coffins, stone boxes) wheat pits, iron tools and arms.
The findings are kept in the ethnographic museum of Gori….
The churches are badly damaged!
