
Nikozi
Archangel’s church is an architectural monument, standing in the center of Zemo Nikozi dating back to X century, It is cross shaped and domed (8,5m x 5,3m) built of fragmented stone. The entrances are to the south, west and north. On the north facade, on the left portion of the wall there is St. George’s figure on horseback fighting against a dragon. On the mouth of the dome, eastwards, there are three lions. The cornice contains fragments of different epochs….

inscriptions on the facade and dome are damaged!

The complex of Ghvtaeba church is an architectural monument standing in the center of Zemo Nikozi on the Right Bank of the river Liakhvi. The complex consists of three building belonging to different periods: Gvtaeba church, the belfry and bishop’s castle.
Gvtaeba church is in the center of the complex. The
first layer belongs to V-VI centuries. According to the chronicler Juansher it
was built on the orders of Vakhtang Gorgasali, The church is cross-shaped and
domed. The entrances are closed up.
The belfry is standing in the north-west of the churchyard, dating back
to XV-XVII centuries. It is two-stored (5,45m x 5,35m). The facades are faced
with carved gray stone. On the first floor there is a gate. Three crosses appear
on the east wall. On the facades there are three inscriptions made in majuscule
script, very difficult to read. On the second floor there is a pavilion for
bells. The floors are connected with a staircase. The belfry is covered with a
vault. The bishop’s castle is standing outside, south-east of the fence,
dating back to X-XI centuries. It is rectangular (11,2m x 21.0m). It is two
stored, built of cobble stone and brick. The entrances are to the north and
west. There is a large window and a fine place in the south wall of the first
floor….
The
building is badly damaged!

Kviratskhoveli
Church
is an architectural monument standing north-east of the village of Kvemo Nikozi,
dating back to late feudal epoch. It is a single-nave church
(6,0m x 5,5m) built of cobblestone and tufa. Shirimi stone is also used.
The entrance is to the south and the arched windows to the east facade above the
window there are three relief circles and a cross…..

used. The entrance is to the south and the arched windows are to the east, west
and south. On the east facade a tall relief cross appears….
