International Center of Information and Communication

  International Center of Information and Communication of Gori State University with computer class and Internet was created with support of ”Eurasia” foundation in 1997, on the basis of received grant in announced competition of this foundation in Georgia for support of higher education. Besides the University, International Center of Information and Communication serves Gori and Gori Region population.

Activities:

International Center of Information&Comunication is partly self-funded, with permanent staff, which sometimes changes depending on contents of projects ( extends)

 At the International Center of Information and Communication is functioning an econometrics study center with the econometric software STATA 5,0; EcoView) and with the econometric library, which is created in 1998-2000, with the support of ”Open Society Georgia foundation.” The library consists an important literature for accomplishment economic education in Georgia.

Activities of Economic Research Center:

1.        Practical training for the students of economic faculty

2.      Support in making course and Diploma works;

3.      Training for studding software;

4.     To support Georgian high education economic profile specialists implement econometric studding system.

In 1998 at the International Center of Information&Comunication have created the initiative group for the research Social Economic problems of Shida Kartli, which is formed as Social Economic Problems Research Center today  and was registered as a non-governmental organisation in 2000.

Aims and tasks of the Organisation:

-         Researches current process in Georgia for self-conciseness, Intellectual activity, and economic, social and cultural potential reaction. Prepares and publishes information for implementation of democratic principles and thinking. Takes active part and creates atmosphere for changing ideas and forming democratic thinking.

International Center of Information&Communication, Econometric Study Center and  Social-Economic Research Center are created on the basis of the grants: 

1.      The grant is received for the project ”Library Enhancement for the Study of Economics”. The grant was awarded through the   Eurasia foundation’s first Economic Competition in Georgia in 1997 (project director: R. Mekvabidze);

2.    The grant is received for the project ”Econometric Study Methods” from the ”Open Society Georgia foundation” in 1998 (project director: R. Mekvabidze);

3.    The grant is received for the project ”Creation of the Econometrics Study Center” in 1999 ( project director: R. Mekvabidze);

4. The grant is received for expands of the activities of International Center of Information & Communication and creating internet resource-center on Gori and Gori Region from the U.S Department of State in 2000 (project Director:R. Mekvabidze; web designer: P. Mekvabidze)

5.Grant is received for the project ”The Course of Lectures on Econometrics and the Methodology of using Econometrics Software STATA 5.0”  (R.Mekvabidze, P. Mekvabide) from The Open Society Georgia Foundation, 2000.

PROJECT 6. "Information Resource Center (Project Author and Director: R. Mekvabidze)

The grant (IA-242-00-G-032) was awarded through the Embassy of the United State of America, USIS , in 2000

Objectives: Training (using computers and internet access); Created a database about Gori and Gori Region; providing public seminars; preparing and publishing  the newspaper "Gori University" and some booklets on civic society and democracy

 

PROJECT  7. "Creation Web site "Gori and Gori Region""

The grant (IATP 2000-GG-07) was awarded through the IREX/IATP in 2000

Objective: creating web site "Gori and Gori Region" which is one of the region "Shida Kartli" of Georgia.

PROJECT  8. " For the support of the reforms in Georgia in the Area of Education"

The grant (Contract N CD_JEP-21058-2000) was awarded through the European Commission, TEMPUS project in 2000-2002

PROJECT  9. "Gori Internet Center"

The grant  was awarded through the  IREX /IATP by financial support of 

Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State (ECA)   in 2002
